What the Course Entails and Exam Details

• Biological Sciences: Students must understand the characteristics of diverse organisms, their behaviors, interactions with the environment, and the principles of genetics and evolution. Topics also include human resource consumption and ecological impact.

• Physical Sciences: This section evaluates understanding of fundamental chemistry and physics concepts, such as matter, energy transformations, force, and motion.

• Earth and Space Sciences: Students will answer questions about the physical characteristics of Earth, geological processes, weather and climate patterns, and Earth’s position and relationship within the solar system.

The exam itself is offered in both online and paper formats, though online testing is increasingly promoted for its accessibility. It is untimed, but the estimated completion time is approximately 90 minutes for the grade 8 test. Calculators are permitted, with specific guidelines for clearing memory.

What to Expect in the Final Exam

The final Science PSSA features a mixed-mode format, combining multiple-choice and open-ended questions.
