What the Course Entails and Exam Details

The ICSI CS course is structured into three progressive stages, providing a robust educational pathway.

Company Secretary Executive Entrance Test (CSEET): This is the entry-level test, mandatory for 10+2 passed students and graduates (except for certain exempted categories). It focuses on fundamental concepts in Business Communication, Legal Aptitude and Logical Reasoning, Economic and Business Environment, and Current Affairs.

CS Executive Programme: This core level consists of several papers divided into groups (or modules), providing an advanced understanding of corporate laws and practices. The syllabus covers key areas including: Jurisprudence, Interpretation and General Laws; Company Law & Practice; Setting Up of Business, Industrial & Labour Laws; Corporate Accounting and Financial Management; Capital Market & Securities Laws; Economic, Commercial, and Intellectual Property Laws; and Tax Laws & Practice.

CS Professional Programme: The final stage includes more specialized and strategic topics, such as Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) - Principles & Practice; Drafting, Pleadings, and Appearances; Compliance Management, Audit, and Due Diligence; and a choice of Elective Papers in areas like Insolvency, Risk Management, or Banking.

Both the Executive and Professional exams are conducted twice a year, in June and December.

What to Expect in the Final Exam

The final examinations for the CS Executive and Professional programmes follow a rigorous and combination-based format designed to test both conceptual understanding and practical application.

Format: The papers are a blend of 20?se-based objective-type questions (Multiple Choice Questions) and 80?scriptive (written) questions. A key exception in the Executive Programme is the "Corporate Accounting and Financial Management" paper, which is 100?scriptive.

Duration and Marking: Each paper is 3 hours long and carries 100 marks. For the objective questions (MCQs), there is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer. There is no negative marking for descriptive questions.

Passing Criteria: To qualify for a module/group, a student must secure a minimum of 40% marks in each paper and a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate of all papers in that module.

A mandatory prerequisite for enrolling in the main Executive and Professional exams is the successful completion of a Pre-Examination Test, which is a computer-based test intended to assess a student's readiness.
