The CPA U syllabus is rigorous, structured into three distinct levels that build upon each other:

Level 1 (Foundation):

• P6: Management Accounting & Finance

Level 2 (Intermediate):

Level 3 (Final): This final stage demands a synthesis of all knowledge:

Students must complete each level before progressing, and have a maximum of 10 years from registration to finish the entire CPA U program.

 What to Expect in the Final Exam

Knowing the final exam format is crucial for targeted preparation and practice test simulation:

Exam Format:

The majority of the ICPAU exams are three-hour written papers, with an additional 15 minutes of mandatory reading time.

Level 1 papers have a structure that includes a section with 20 compulsory multiple-choice questions (1 mark each), followed by compulsory and optional computational/essay questions.

Higher-level papers become increasingly essay-based, demanding analytical and advisory skills.

The exception is Paper 17 (Integration of Knowledge), which is a unique computer-based examination (CBE) designed to test practical skills in a controlled, realistic scenario.

Passing Score and Specific Rules:

The pass mark for each individual paper is 50%.

Candidates are allowed to bring a non-programmable calculator into the exam. All official ICPAU exam instructions must be followed, and strict confidentiality of exam content is maintained.

 How to Study and Exam Centers

Effective preparation requires a combination of disciplined study and practical simulation:

Utilize ICPAU Study Packs: These are the primary source. Complement them with reputable international text.

Practice with Past Papers: This is non-negotiable. ICPAU provides past papers and examiners' comments. Time yourself and treat them like real exams.

Simulate Exam Conditions (Practice Tests): Use a quiet space and a timer. Practice the 15-minute reading time technique to choose your optional questions.

Focus on Integration (Level 3): Prepare for the CBE-based P17 by practicing case study analysis and refreshing your computer-use skills in a professional accounting environment.

Exam Centers:

You must take the final ICPAU CPA(U) examinations in one of the approved physical testing centers across Uganda.

As of recent sittings, these are:

• Kampala (Multiple centers, but confirm specific locations during registration)
• Arua
• Fort Portal
• Gulu
• Mbale
• Mbarara
• Nkozi (This center is specifically restricted for students of Uganda Martyrs University)

You cannot take the general examinations via Pearson VUE or a general online portal; they must be completed at these specific, designated venues under supervision.
