What the Course Entails and Exam Details

What to Expect in the Final Exam

The Survey of the Natural Sciences section contains 100 questions to be answered in 90 minutes. The Perceptual Ability section presents 90 questions in 60 minutes. After the optional break, you will have 60 minutes for the 50 Reading Comprehension questions, and finally, 45 minutes to complete the 40 Quantitative Reasoning questions.

DAT scores are reported on a scale from 1 to 30, with 19 being the national average for enrolled dental students in recent years. There is no predetermined passing score; rather, individual dental schools set their own competitive standards for admission. Strictly enforced rules and procedures, including specific identification requirements, are in place to maintain the integrity of the testing process. No outside materials or calculators (other than the basic on-screen one provided for certain math problems) are permitted.

The DAT is administered year-round at authorized Prometric testing centers throughout the United States and its territories, as well as Canada. You must first obtain a DENTPIN from the ADA website before you can register and schedule your specific test date and location through Prometric. Online practice tools are available, but the actual examination must be taken in person at these secure, computer-based centers.
