This particular section focuses on evaluating how you respond in various situations that you might encounter as an officer. The Situational Judgment subtest does not require prior military knowledge. Rather, it assesses core behavioral and leadership competencies. The questions present practical, hypothetical dilemmas involving supervisory relationships, ethical conflicts, interpersonal dynamics, and team coordination. Your task is to analyze these scenarios and determine the most effective and least effective courses of action based on the context of professional leadership. The subtest aims to measure traits such as problem-solving, integrity, initiative, and teamwork.

What to Expect in the Final Exam

The Situational Judgment subtest is dynamic and differs from the academic cognitive sections. It typically consists of 50 behavioral scenarios, and for each scenario, you must identify both the best response and the worst response from four possible options. This means you will have to make 100 selections in total. The section is strictly timed, allocating 35 minutes to complete the tasks, requiring both critical thinking and efficient decision-making. There is no rigid "passing score" specifically for this subtest; rather, your score is aggregated and contributes to composite scores (like the "Self-Description" or specific pilot/navigator composites), which are compared competitively among the candidate pool. You must meet minimum composite scores, which are periodically adjusted by the Air Force. The final AFOQT is typically a paper-and-pencil exam, although digital versions are increasingly common at authorized centers.

Scheduling must be done through your Air Force recruiter or ROTC cadre. You cannot register for the AFOQT at public Pearson VUE or Prometric testing centers.
