Seed Treatment Category 4 Practice Exam

The fungicide known for its systemic properties against wheat loose smut is Carboxin. This fungicide is particularly effective because it is taken up by the plant and distributed throughout its tissues, allowing for protection against pathogens that reside within the plant, such as those causing loose smut. Systemic fungicides differ from contact fungicides as they can move within the plant, providing more thorough coverage and longer-lasting protection. In the case of wheat loose smut, caused by the fungus Ustilago tritici, the systemic action of Carboxin enables it to control the disease effectively, as it targets the infective stages of the pathogen that may not be directly accessible at the time of application. Other fungicides, while effective in certain contexts, do not possess the same systemic qualities that allow them to penetrate and protect the plant from internal infections.
