Capacity Building Assessment Tool For Organizations (CBAT-O) Pre-test Practice

The correct answer is that Ring "3" displays target tracking radars. Target tracking radars are specifically designed to detect and continuously follow the movement of objects, typically within a defined space. This capability is crucial in various applications, including military operations and air traffic control, where knowing the precise location and movement of objects—such as aircraft or missiles—is essential for safety and strategic decision-making. In the context of radar systems, each ring may signify a different level of sensor or operational focus. While search radars primarily focus on detecting and locating targets, target tracking radars take the next step by maintaining a consistent track on these targets once they have been detected. This distinction emphasizes the importance of active monitoring and data gathering that target tracking radars provide—it is this ongoing surveillance that sets them apart and is represented in Ring "3". Other radar types mentioned, such as weather and civilian radars, serve different functions and are not primarily focused on tracking targets continuously, which is the primary function attributed to target tracking radars. Therefore, the identification of Ring "3" with target tracking emphasizes its specialized function within the radar classification system.
