The benefit of using retinol in skin care stems from its ability to accelerate skin cell turnover, which helps achieve a smoother skin texture. Retinol, a derivative of vitamin A, promotes the shedding of old, dead skin cells and encourages the production of new, healthier cells. This process not only improves the overall appearance of the skin by minimizing fine lines, wrinkles, and rough patches but also helps in addressing issues like pigmentation and uneven skin tone. In contrast, the other options do not accurately represent the effects of retinol. For instance, it does not cause acne; in fact, it is often used to help manage and prevent breakouts. Additionally, rather than slowing down skin cell turnover, retinol actively speeds it up. Its benefits are not confined to dry skin; retinol can be beneficial for various skin types, including oily and combination skin, as it aids in multiple skin concerns.
