California Driver License (DMV) Written Practice Test

When you approach a school bus that has stopped and has its red lights flashing, you must:

Stop and wait until all passengers have been picked up Slow down Pass at a safe speed Honk your horn

Correct Answer:

Stop and wait until all passengers have been picked up

Explanation:

When you approach a school bus with its red lights flashing, you must stop and wait until all passengers have been picked up. This is the law regardless of the direction of travel, you must stop even on a divided highway or if a barrier divides your direction of travel from the bus. Slowing down or passing the bus at a safe speed in this situation is not enough, as it puts the lives of young children at risk. Furthermore, you should not honk your horn as it can startle the students and increase the chances of an accident.
