Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) Permit Practice Test

Using your headlights during bad weather or when visibility is low is essential for safety and adherence to driving regulations. Headlights improve your vehicle's visibility to other drivers, making it easier for them to see you in conditions such as rain, fog, snow, or heavy cloud cover. In circumstances where natural light is insufficient, such as during dusk or dawn, headlights also serve a critical function in helping you see the road ahead. While headlights are generally associated with nighttime driving, they are also a requirement during specified conditions regardless of the time of day. This reflects the importance of maintaining a high level of visibility to prevent accidents. However, stating that headlights are only required at night or that they are not required during the day does not account for scenarios that compromise visibility due to weather. When driving in any condition that limits your ability to see or be seen, using headlights is a vital practice for safety.
