ACI Concrete Flatwork Finishing Certification Practice Test

The primary use of a bull float in concrete finishing is to level the surface after pouring. When freshly placed concrete is still wet, the bull float is employed to glide across the surface, effectively smoothing out high spots and filling in low areas to achieve a level finish. This process not only helps in achieving a flat surface but also consolidates the concrete at the surface, which is important for the overall finishing process. Proper leveling at this stage sets the foundation for further finishing techniques, as an even surface allows for better adherence of subsequent treatments such as troweling or texturing. The bull float's wide, flat design enables the finisher to cover large areas efficiently, making it a crucial tool in the initial stages of flatwork finishing.
