TAMU ARTS150 Art History II Practice Exam

The primary theme depicted in the Ramakien Murals is mythological narratives. The Ramakien is the Thai version of the Indian epic Ramayana, which features rich storytelling that incorporates divine beings, heroic figures, and the eternal struggle between good and evil. The murals beautifully illustrate scenes from this epic, showcasing the complex characters and events that constitute the mythology inherent in the tale. These narratives serve not only as artistic depictions but also as cultural artifacts that convey moral lessons and traditional values integral to Thai identity. By representing these mythological elements, the murals connect viewers to a broader cultural context while allowing them to engage with the legendary stories that have been passed down through generations. Thus, the focus on mythological narratives is central to understanding the purpose and significance of the Ramakien Murals.
