Texas Food Handler Manager Practice Exam

The correct sequence for washing utensils is to wash, rinse, sanitize, and then air dry. This order is crucial for ensuring that utensils are properly cleaned and safe to use. First, washing removes food particles, grease, and other contaminants from the surface of the utensils using soap and hot water. This step is essential because if the utensils are not cleaned first, the sanitizing step will not be effective if dirt or food residue remains. Next, rinsing is performed to remove any remaining soap and loosened food particles. This step ensures that the surface of the utensils is as clean as possible before sanitization. The third step, sanitizing, involves applying a chemical sanitizer or using heat to kill any remaining bacteria or pathogens that could cause foodborne illness. This step is vital in ensuring the safety of the utensils for food contact. Finally, the utensils should be air dried. This is important because drying them with a towel could introduce new bacteria, while air drying allows them to be free from contaminants. Following this proper sequence helps in maintaining food safety and hygiene standards in food handling practices.
