Supervision Of Fire Alarm Systems (S-95) Practice Exam

The correct answer reflects the standard maximum air sampling transport time allowed for air sampling type detectors in fire alarm systems. Air sampling detectors are designed to continuously monitor the air for the presence of smoke particles, and their effectiveness depends significantly on the speed at which air can be sampled and delivered to the sensing chamber. A maximum transport time of 120 seconds ensures that the system can effectively sample air from various locations within the protected area, allowing for an efficient and timely response to potential fire conditions. This 120-second limit is established to balance the system's sensitivity and response time while ensuring it can accommodate the complexities of locations that may be far from the detector itself. In contrast, shorter or longer sampling times may not provide adequate sensitivity or could introduce delays that would risk the safety and responsiveness of the fire alarm system. Thus, adhering to the 120-second standard helps maintain the integrity and reliability of air sampling systems in detecting possible fire threats promptly.
