California ICC UST Service Technician Practice Exam

The correct answer is that the overfill alarm must be located so it can be seen or heard from the delivery location. This requirement is critical for ensuring safety during the delivery of fuel to underground storage tanks (USTs). The overfill alarm serves as an immediate alert to indicate when the tank is nearing full capacity, thus preventing overfilling, which can lead to potential spills and environmental hazards. Having the alarm observable or audible from the delivery location allows the delivery personnel to respond promptly to the alarm. This minimizes risk and enhances safety by ensuring that the operator can take necessary actions, such as stopping the flow of fuel, immediately when an overfill condition is indicated. Other potential locations for the alarm, such as at the entrance of the facility or in the control room, may not provide the immediacy needed for the delivery personnel to act quickly. Similarly, placing the alarm near the fuel dispenser does not serve its primary purpose of alerting those directly involved in the delivery process. Therefore, the correct positioning is vital for effective monitoring during fuel deliveries.
