USCG Tankerman Assistant Practice Exam

Preventing the pinching of the cargo hose between the vessel and the dock is crucial for safety and efficient operations during loading and unloading procedures. Adjusting the hose supports is an effective method because it ensures that the hose is properly elevated and secured, reducing the risk of it being pinched. By properly positioning the hose supports, you can create a suitable angle and path for the cargo hose, which helps to maintain its flexibility and integrity. This adjustment helps to avoid stress and potential damage that can occur when a hose is pinched, which could lead to leaks and hazardous situations. Laying out an excess length of hose on deck, while it might seem like a way to give the hose some slack, does not directly address the issue of pinching between the vessel and the dock. Similarly, tying off topping lifts and runners to winch heads is related to securing equipment but does not specifically prevent the hose from pinching. Installing hose preventers can be useful but is not the primary solution for addressing the angle and position of the hose in relation to potential pinch points. Thus, adjusting the hose supports is the most effective method for ensuring that the hose remains clear and operational during transfers.
