Agroforestry is a land-use management system that combines agriculture and forestry practices to create more diverse, productive, and sustainable landscapes. One of the key benefits of agroforestry is that it enhances biodiversity. This is achieved by integrating trees with crops and/or livestock, which provides a variety of habitats for different species. The presence of diverse plant and animal species can lead to improved ecosystem resilience, better pest management, and higher agricultural productivity. Additionally, the increased complexity of agroforestry systems can enhance soil health through improved nutrient cycling and increased organic matter from tree litter. This biodiversity promotes a more balanced ecosystem, reduces vulnerability to pests and diseases, and can lead to increased yields over time. Therefore, enhancing biodiversity is a fundamental advantage of agroforestry that supports environmental sustainability and agricultural resilience.
