The correct answer is that air handling units installed at floor level must be ducted to discharge air at waist level or above. This requirement is based on the principle of optimal air distribution and occupant comfort within a space. Discharging air at waist level or higher allows for better mixing of the heated or cooled air with the ambient air in the room. It promotes more even temperature distribution and prevents cold or hot pockets from forming, which can negatively impact comfort levels. Additionally, positioning the discharge at waist level or above can help reduce the risk of the air coming into direct contact with the floor, which is typically cooler. This allows the discharging air to warm up or cool down as needed before it reaches the occupants, enhancing overall efficiency. Furthermore, delivering the air at this height minimizes noise and disruption from the airflow, contributing to a more pleasant environment. In contrast, discharging air at floor level under or over 10 feet from the unit may not provide the same benefits. It could lead to uneven air distribution and potential comfort issues, while also risking placing the air directly at the level of feet or adjacent surfaces, where it may not mix well with the rest of the room’s air. Additionally, discharging air overboard does not serve the purpose of
