Read the passage below and answer the question that follows. Liam stood in his grandfather's dory workshop in Rustico, surrounded by the sharp scent of cedar shavings and pine tar. For three weeks, they had been shaping wooden planks to build a traditional fishing boat. Liam's hands were calloused, and his back ached from steam-bending oak ribs. When a sudden gust of rain rattled the wooden shingles outside, his grandfather paused and whispered, 'A dory must be sturdy enough to trust your life to the sea.' Liam ran his fingers down the curved keel, determined to inspect every seam twice before sunset. How does the setting of the workshop influence Liam's feelings about his work?

The noisy workshop makes Liam want to abandon the project entirely. The smells, sounds, and traditions of the workshop deepen Liam's respect for shipbuilding. The cold coastal weather forces Liam to rush through the assembly process. The setting plays no role in Liam's attitude toward constructing the dory.

Correct Answer:

The smells, sounds, and traditions of the workshop deepen Liam's respect for shipbuilding.
