Read the excerpt from a story set in Utah's High Uintas: Lucas gazed up at the steep granite ridge. The storm clouds were gathering fast, darkening the sky like spilled ink. 'We need to set up camp in the treeline now,' he insisted, pointing toward a grove of lodgepole pines. Sam shook his head, checking his watch. 'If we push hard for twenty minutes, we can reach the pass before the rain hits.' How does the disagreement between Lucas and Sam advance the plot?

It creates tension and forces the characters to make a critical decision under pressure. It shows that Lucas does not know how to pitch a mountain tent. It resolves the main conflict of the story by avoiding the approaching storm. It proves that Sam is more experienced in mountain hiking than Lucas.
