Dental Nursing Apprenticeship Practice Test

The correct answer is that all of the listed equipment is necessary for CPR. This comprehensive approach is crucial in emergency situations involving cardiac arrest or respiratory failure. A defibrillator is essential because it delivers an electric shock to the heart when it is in a disorganized rhythm, which can allow a normal heartbeat to resume. The use of a defibrillator dramatically increases survival rates when used in conjunction with CPR. An oxygen mask can be vital during CPR because it helps to deliver oxygen to the patient, especially if they are not breathing adequately or at all. Providing supplemental oxygen can improve the effectiveness of rescue breaths and support better oxygenation of the patient’s body. The bag-valve mask (BVM) is also critical as it allows the rescuer to provide positive pressure ventilation. This helps to breathe for the patient, supplying air to their lungs effectively, particularly when they are not capable of breathing on their own. Each piece of equipment plays a unique role in enhancing the effectiveness of CPR and improving the chances of survival for someone in cardiac distress. Hence, recognizing their importance collectively is vital for any dental nurse or healthcare provider involved in emergency procedures.
