Alberta Written Barber Practice Exam

Using a nonparallel finger and shear position when cutting hair is primarily employed to create exaggerated length increases. This cutting technique allows the stylist to manipulate the angle and elevation at which the hair is cut, resulting in longer sections and a more dramatic effect. By angling the fingers and shears differently, the stylist can remove less hair at the ends while taking more off from the upper layers, thus achieving significant length differences throughout the hairstyle. In this context, while creating wispy ends and layering the hair can involve the positioning of fingers and shears, they typically do not emphasize the same level of drastic length variation that a nonparallel position does. On the other hand, achieving a uniform length is generally associated with a more parallel position, as it ensures that all sections are cut evenly. Therefore, the technique in question is specifically suited for enhancing length changes and creating a more dynamic and visually interesting hairstyle.
