Army Regulation (AR) 600-20 Practice Test

The idea being tested is that commanders can designate official ceremonies, including memorial observances, as mandatory for the unit when they are part of a command program. Memorial ceremonies are formal events that honor fallen soldiers and reinforce unit pride and cohesion. When a commander designates attendance as part of a command program, soldiers are expected to attend as part of their official duties. If a soldier has a legitimate reason for not attending (such as a religious accommodation, medical issue, or other approved exemption), the chain of command can grant an accommodation or arrange an alternative, but without an approved exception, attendance is required and not optional. This reflects how command authority applies to official ceremonies to ensure respect, continuity, and unity within the unit.
