Iowa Drivers Permit Practice Test

A steady green traffic light indicates that you can proceed through the intersection. Drivers facing a green light have the right of way and can continue moving forward, as long as the intersection is clear and it is safe to do so. The expectation is that you should maintain a reasonable and safe speed while passing through, particularly if you are approaching an intersection that has pedestrian traffic or other vehicles potentially reacting to your movement. The other options imply actions that are not mandated when a green light is showing. For instance, you do not have to stop, yield, or immediately turn; the green light clearly signals that movement through the intersection is permitted. This understanding reinforces the importance of obeying traffic signals to maintain flow and reduce the risk of accidents at intersections.
