Developer is a crucial component in the hair coloring process, specifically used to activate the hair dye. When mixed with the color, the developer opens up the hair cuticle, allowing the color to penetrate into the hair shaft. This process enhances the color results by ensuring better adherence and longevity of the dye in the hair. The developer typically contains hydrogen peroxide, which not only helps to lift the natural color but also allows the artificial pigments to deposit effectively. In comparison, shampoo is primarily used for cleansing the hair and is not involved in the coloring process. Conditioner helps to moisturize and soften the hair but does not play a role in enhancing color results. Gel is often used for styling purposes and does not contribute to the application or effectiveness of hair dye. Thus, developer is essential for achieving optimal hair color results.
