Mobile Pump Operator (MPO) Practice Exam

For primer pumps rated less than 1250 GPM, what is the maximum duration of the priming process?

15 seconds 30 seconds 60 seconds 90 seconds

Correct Answer:

30 seconds

Explanation:

The maximum duration of the priming process for primer pumps rated less than 1250 GPM is 30 seconds. This time frame is established based on the operational efficiency and design of these pumps. It ensures that the pump can establish adequate suction without overheating or causing mechanical issues, which could occur if the priming process takes significantly longer. A 30-second limit strikes a balance between ensuring proper function and maintaining equipment integrity. Prolonged priming can lead to a decline in performance and potential damage to the pump, making it crucial to adhere to recommended priming times. Hence, understanding this limit aids mobile pump operators in ensuring proper equipment operation and maintenance.
