To find the voltage drop across a resistor when a current flows through it, Ohm's law is applied, which states that voltage (V) is equal to the current (I) multiplied by the resistance (R). In this scenario, you have a current of 8 milliamperes (mA) and a resistance of 250 ohms. First, convert the current from milliamperes to amperes. Since there are 1000 milliamperes in an ampere, 8 mA is equal to 0.008 A. Now, using Ohm's law: V = I × R V = 0.008 A × 250 ohms V = 2 volts Thus, the voltage drop across the 250-ohm resistor when an 8 mA signal is connected is indeed 2 volts, making the chosen answer correct. This understanding is critical because it illustrates the direct relationship between current, voltage, and resistance in electrical circuits. The constants and units used in calculations are fundamental in the field of instrumentation and electrical work, emphasizing the importance of knowing how to manipulate and apply these equations effectively.
