North Carolina Fire Operations 9 Practice Test

Offensive operations focus on actively fighting the fire directly at its source when conditions permit, using an approach that pursues rapid control and extinguishment. The idea in the best statement is to use a small handline to make a direct attack when the fire isn’t too large to extinguish. A small, controllable line lets firefighters apply water precisely where it’s needed, quickly cooling the fire and reducing the chance of rapid growth or flashover while keeping crews safe as they advance the attack. This differs from other descriptions here. One statement talks about the effects of water on the fire rather than how to attack it. Another describes where crews might operate or position themselves, not the tactic used to combat the fire. The last lists nozzle types, which are equipment details rather than the chosen tactic of offensive versus defensive action.
