Which NBA star argued he should be recognized as a star athlete rather than a 'black' star?

Wilt Chamberlain Kareem Abdul-Jabbar LeBron James Michael Jordan

Correct Answer:

Wilt Chamberlain

Explanation:

The idea being tested is recognizing athletes for their on-field excellence rather than letting race define how they’re labeled. Wilt Chamberlain argued that his abilities as a basketball player should stand on their own merit, not be colored by the label of being a “black” star. In the era when race could frame how fans and media described Black athletes, Chamberlain pressed to be seen first as a premier athlete whose talent transcends racial categories. That stance helped push conversations about judging players by skill and achievement, not by race. While other stars have spoken on race and representation, Chamberlain is the figure most closely associated with the push to be valued for athletic greatness rather than racial labeling.
