California Entered Apprentice Mason Practice Test

Are women eligible to become Masons in the Blue Lodge?

Yes; women may join after 1 year No; the Blue Lodge is for men; women may join related appendent orders They may join after a probation period They may join after a year or more

Correct Answer:

No; the Blue Lodge is for men; women may join related appendent orders

Explanation:

The main concept here is that the Blue Lodge, which confers the Craft degrees, is traditionally male-only in regular Freemasonry. Women are not eligible to become Masons in the Blue Lodge. If a woman is interested in Masonic work or fellowship, she would look to appendant or affiliated bodies that admit women, such as the Order of the Eastern Star, which operates alongside the Craft and has its own membership rules. So the correct understanding is that the Blue Lodge is for men, while women may participate in related appendant orders.
