The proper pH level for hair care products is in the range of 4.5 to 5.5. This range is slightly acidic, which is ideal for maintaining the health of hair and scalp. Hair's natural pH is around 4.5 to 5.0, so using products within this range helps to preserve the hair's natural barrier. An acidic pH helps to close the cuticles of the hair, which can enhance shine and reduce frizz, leading to smoother and healthier-looking hair. Products that fall outside this optimal pH range, particularly those that are more alkaline (like those in the 6.0 to 7.5 or 8.0 to 9.0 ranges), can open the hair cuticles. This can lead to increased porosity and susceptibility to damage, making hair more prone to breakage and dryness. Such products may strip the hair of its natural oils, further compromising its health and luster. Hence, the 4.5 to 5.5 pH range is specifically chosen to promote an environment that is conducive to optimal hair care.
