Residential Building Inspector Practice Exam

Wood studs in a dwelling must be installed according to specific guidelines to ensure structural integrity and compliance with building codes. One such authoritative source is Table R602.3(5) from the International Residential Code (IRC), which provides details on the spacing, size, and attachment requirements for framing members, including wood studs. Following the data from this table ensures that the framing meets safety and performance standards, including load-bearing capacities. While installation as per the design plan and certain spacing like 24 inches on center can be relevant, these options depend on the specifics outlined in the code table. Furthermore, the notion that wood studs are needed only in living areas overlooks the fact that framing is necessary throughout the dwelling, including non-living spaces, for structural support and integrity. Using Table R602.3(5) ensures that all aspects of framing are addressed appropriately.
