What is the Exam?
The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) Accreditation Written Examination is the rigorous first step toward achieving the highly prestigious AACD Accreditation. Administered by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, this exam evaluates a dental professional's foundational and advanced knowledge in aesthetic and restorative dentistry. Passing this assessment proves a clinician's mastery of complex cosmetic concepts and officially starts a five-year window to complete the clinical case submission phase of the credentialing process.
Exam Format and Passing Score
Question Count: The exam consists of 200 multiple-choice questions for dentists and 100 multiple-choice questions for laboratory technicians.
Time Limit: The exam is a comprehensive, time-bound assessment administered either in-person at the Annual AACD Scientific Session or via authorized computer-based testing centers.
Passing Score: The exam is strictly graded on a Pass/Fail basis established by AACD credentialing standards. Passing indicates the candidate possesses the requisite cognitive knowledge to safely and effectively proceed to clinical case submissions.

Career Opportunities
Pursuing and achieving AACD Accreditation places a professional in an elite, globally recognized tier of cosmetic dentistry—currently, there are fewer than 350 accredited members worldwide. This credential serves as a verified mark of clinical excellence, allowing dentists to attract high-end patients seeking advanced smile makeovers. Furthermore, it empowers practitioners to command premium fees for complex restorative cases, differentiate their practice in competitive markets, and unlock exclusive avenues for clinical teaching, speaking engagements, and industry leadership.
